Book Reading: "Holes" by Louis Sachar

"Stanley Yelnats is under a curse. A curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of Yelnatses. Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys’ detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. But there are an awful lot of holes." In this project, we are going to read and reflect on the book "Holes" by Louis Sachar.
Book reading-project is in its essence about reading a book together. During the reading, you will answer several questions about different parts of the text. When answering the questions, you will be expected to either write short answers, where you can find the answer clearly in the text, or longer answers, where you need to reflect upon the content of the book. This will show off your writing skills - how well can you write down and show the teacher what/how you think and feel. We will also have discussions about the book during the lessons, so that you can show how well you speak in English and how well you can talk about your ideas, opinions and thoughts on the book. Lastly, you will also be expected to practise listening when we go through certain parts of the book.
All in all, this is what you will practise on:
1. Reading comprehension: Reading a longer, fictional book and answer questions to test your reading abilities.
2. Writing: You will practice writing by answering the questions for the book. Some of the questions require you to reflect upon the content of the book and write longer answers. You will also write a book review at the end of the project.
3. Speaking: During the lessons, I will instruct you to speak English about some parts of the book, so make sure you do your homework!
4. Listening:During the lessons, you will be listening to some parts of the text and be required to retell them using your own words and discuss them to show that you have understood what you have heard.
