Civil Rights movement & Remember the titans

During approx 4-5 weeks we will discuss and analyse the Civil Rights Movement. We will watch a documentary to understand what and how everything happened in the USA as well as the movie Remember the titans. The focus afterwards is then to write an analysis where you discuss certain themes from the movie.

What? You have just seen the movie ”Remember the titans”. Use your notes and have them nearby when you write. You are now going to write an analysis of the film.

Why? You are going to write a longer piece of text, in English! The purpose is partly to to practise how to structure as well as formulate a text and to avoid unecessary words and informal language as well as analyse and discuss.

How? After the introduction, watching the documentary as well as the movie Remember the titans you will have approx 4 weeks to write, get feedback and revise your text. The text must be at least 1 A4 page but not more than 3 pages.

 

Structure:

Introduction (use this word) in the introduction, you present and explain the subject to the reader. Tell the reader what your text is going to be about and explain what perspectives you are going to discuss.

Language

Avoid using informal language such as;

”like”

”gonna” ”wanna” etc.

Try not to use ”I as much”. For example; you do not have to write ”I like apples”. You could also write ”Apples tastes good, apples are delicious” etc. Go straight to the point!

Paragraphs:

A five-paragraph essay is the typical format of an essay which you will learn throuhout your school years, not just here now, in ninth grade but also in high school and higher education.

In an essay with five paragraphs (introduction, 3 body paragraphs, conclusion) allows you to express certain ideas, claims or concepts in an organized manner.

Write a Conclusion
