Geography of Europe, Asia and North Africa

In this module we will be examining the geography of Europe, Asia and North Africa. Further, we will be reviewing the geographic coordinate system as well as working with the graphing of significant geographical information.

CONTENT

In this lesson module we will be working with the topographical and political geography of Europe, Asia, and North Africa. In addition to this we will be working with the geographical coordinate system and graphical presentation of geographically significant information such as precipitation and temperature for a given location.

GOALS:

The object of the module is to acquaint you with the topographical and political geography of Europe, Asia, and North Africa. In addition to this, you will learn how to read and draw inferences from geographically significant informational charts and graphs. Finally, we will review the geographic coordinate system to confirm your ability to identify locations given the relevant coordinates.

1. Digital resources such as Google Earth and Wikipedia.

2. Print resouces such as an atlas or encyclopedia.

3. Speciality websites providing specific information/statistics regarding relevant material.

You will be responsible for the following information on the exam:

1. The political geography of Europé, Asia and North Africa. This means that you will need to know the countries and the major capitals of these regions.

2. The following deserts: Gobi (Aisa), Sahara (Africa)

3. The following rivers and their locations: Rhine, Danube, Volga, Nile, Mekong, Yellow, Yangtze, Amur, Indus, Ganges, Irawaddy, Tigris, Euphrates

4. Explain latitute and longitude as well as how you can use each to locate a position on the Earth.

a. What is the equator?

b. What is the Prime Meridian?

c. How do degrees, minutes, and seconds relate to the geographic coordinate system?

5. Be able to read charts related to precipitation and temperature for cities around the world

6. Explain why the Northern and Southern hemispheres have opposite summer and winter seasons.
