National Test Preparation ENG5

We will be working with preparing for the English 5 national test. The purpose is for each student to familiarize themselves with the types of tests that can occur during the final exam. The examples used are primarily those available at nafs.gu.se but some examples of previous tests that have been released for use may also be used.

The order in which the different parts of the national test are practiced is subject to change depending on scheduling.

Uppgifter

Speaking pt.1

Your task is to familiarize yourself with the type of speaking exam that may show up on the national test and to try it out for yourselves.

In smaller groups of 2-3, read through the instructions for part 1 + 2. Only after you have read all parts of the assignment do you begin speaking.

Record your conversation on your phones, you will need to keep the recordings for later. It is important that you record the conversation individually.

You have 15 minutes from when you start recording to do both parts of the assignment. Remember to use your voice and your body language appropriately while speaking. Also think of ways to make the topic more interesting to keep the conversation going in case you finish too quickly.

When you are finished, individually take some notes on your performance. What did you think you did well? How much of the time do you estimate you were speaking? What can you do better for next time?

Writing pt. 1

For this assignment, you will be given a student example text from a previous national test.

Your first task is to read and assess the text according to the grading criteria in smaller groups.

After that, your second task is to individually find as many language errors made by the student as possible. Be harsh with your critism, this is not a student that will ever read your comments. The purpose is to show your teacher that you can find any mistakes in the text and prove that you can do it better than the original author.

• In smaller groups, discuss your assessment of the text in relation to the grading criteria.
• Individually, mark any errors by using the highlight tool. Also mark any general suggestions that you may have on how to improve the text.
• Then correct the text to the best of your ability without changing the content of the text. Give your suggestions on how to fix it using the comment tool.
• Turn in the file with your corrections and comments when you are finished.

Writing pt. 2

Take an old national test writing exam.

The test will take place on exam.net, you will receive the code during class.

Listening Pt. 1

To prepare for the listening part of the national test, you will take an old listening exam during class.

Unlike in the real test situation, you will enter your answers into Forms in order to allow for speedy feedback. Remember that the autocorrection feature is limited and that it does not always correct correctly. DO NOT WORRY! Your teacher double checks all tests and you will get points for correct answers even if the test doesn't autocorrect appropriately the first time around.

Simply turn in the date during which you took the practice test here. Your teacher will then check your answers to make sure the autocorrect corrected properly and then enter your final score.
