Body art - tattoos, piercings, scarification and other body modifications

What do you think of body art? Do you like it or not? Would you like do do something like this on yourself? You are going to sit in small groups, talking about different kinds of body art and record your conversation on an iPad.

Assignment:

You are going to have a conversation with a few classmates about body art, such as tattoos, piercings, scarification and other kinds of body modifications. You will get questions to help you get started with the conversation and you are going to talk for about 15-20 minutes.

Preparation:

We read the texts in "Skin", on pp 48-50 in Wings 8. You learn the vocabulary in the yellow boxes. In class we look at pictures of different kinds of body art and talk about them, so you can get an idea of what to talk about in your conversation.

  

Your conversation will be graded according to these criteria:

• contents - Can you give your own thoughts about on different kinds of body art?
• context and continutity - Are your thoughts given in a way, so it is easy to follow what you mean?
• presentation skills - Is your speech fluent? Are words pronounced well, so it is easy to understand what you say? Can you continue your discussion, even if you can't find the correct words or if you lose focus and forget what to say?
• strategies to keep the conversation going - Can you keep up he conversation by asking questions to the others? Can you make comments on your classmates' thoughts about body art?
