You will be reading a dystopian novel, read and discuss articles, watch a TedTalk and then some...

Questions to discuss 

• In what way(s) are Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Alibaba the biggest dystopian threat according to Zeynep Tufekci? 

• What is persuasion architecture? 

• What is big data? 

•  How is Facebook et. al. using algorithms and big data? 

•  What is the danger(s) of the learning data algorithms, according to Tufekci? 

• Do you think that the content you encounter online can affect who you vote for/ your political thinking? Why/why not? 

•  Do you believe that the use of algorithms and the collection of big data is as dangerous as is suggested in the speech or not? Why?

 Below is a list of classic and modern dystopian novels I would like you to take your pick from. Google the titles and read a bit about the books, then choose the one you think sounds most interesting. Some are easy to find online and I have given some links as where to find them. You can also see if you find it online on another site than the ones suggested. You can also go to the library and see if they have the book, you like to read.
