This week we are going to read and talk about what it is like being a teenager and growing up in today's society. We will also learn about the lives of American teenagers and discuss our opinions by speaking in small groups and by writing an essay. We will also talk about bullying and present a group project where you give your best advice on how to prevent bullying at our school. “Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands.”- Anne Frank

Uppgifter

Essay: Growing Up In Sweden

You are going to write a small essay (500 – 1000 words) where you talk about what it is like growing up in Sweden. This is what you are going to write about:

1. Introduction:

Write about yourself and your life. What rules do you have at home and what is expected of you in your family?

2. Body:

a) What is expected of you in school? In society? What do you want to accomplish (your goals, dreams etc.)?

b) Do you feel pressure? Explain in what way and how you feel about it.

c) What is the hardest thing about growing up? How do you deal with it?

d) How is your life and the way you are growing up different to teens in the USA?

e) Write about what you think is positive and negative about the way you and other teens live and grow up in Sweden and compare to the way they live and grow up in the US.

3. Conclusion:

Read through your text and explain which way of growing up (Sweden or USA) you prefer and explain why?

4. When you are finished make sure you read trough your text carefully. Let at least one other classmate read your text and tell you two good things and one thing you could improve. Make sure you try to work with your text to make it better. Feel free to ask me about spelling, grammar and other things you find tricky.
