My Favourite Song

Music means a lot to most people. It touches our hearts, makes us happy when we´re sad and calms us when we´re excited. It´s hard to forget a song you love. And sometimes hearing a song brings back memories. It´s like they´re stuck to the song like glue. If a song is good or not is a matter of personal taste. We all like different kinds of music. And sometimes our taste in music changes. But there are songs that stay with us, that always mean something special to us. In this project you are going to share such a song with me and your classmates.

Purpose

·       To work with a subject that matters to all of us and is part of everyday life

·       To gain some insight into culture and society in the English-Speaking world

·       To practise giving a verbal presentation and to have a talk/discussion about the song and lyrics after hearing a presentation

·       To search for information on the internet and use it in your presentation

·       To use visual and audio aid in your presentation ( powerpoint, word or pages document with headlines, key-words and pictures, song clip)

Method

·       Individual or pair-work

·       Instructions from teacher

 

Step-by-step checklist:

·       Choose a song in English, look up the lyrics and analyse it

 

·       Give a background to the song:

-         Who sings it? Who is he/she? Where does he/she come from?

* Give some facts about that city; the history of it, anything else of interest?

How did he/she start his/her career? What genre of music is it? What´s typical of that genre?

Search for answers to these questions on the internet. Use English sources.

·       Explain what the lyrics are about. Show them on your visual aid.

·       Explain why you like the song and the lyrics

·       How does it make you feel?

·       Play a short piece of the song

 

Presentation

Verbal:

·       Live presentation in the classroom

 

 

Length: 2-3 minutes per person

After each presentation we are going to have a short discussion about the song.

 

You need to show that you can speak freely, as in a conversation. But you may use cue-cards or a paper with key-words written down.
