Media Literacy

This unit focuses on developing our critical thinking skills when it comes to media and advertising. We will look at how we are marketed to, how to identify it, how to analyze it and what laws and protections are in place for us to express ourselves.

 

Lesson Content

  • We will use

    • YouTube videos

    • Various media websites

    • Print media

  • We will read, watch, view and listen to various media sources and comment on them

  • A lot of work is group work, but you will be graded individually

 

Goals

  • To critically analyze advertising and media information

  • To be able to identify marketing

  • To understand the differences between political information and propaganda

  • To be able to understand and give examples of Freedom of Expression laws and what does not apply to those laws.

  • To be able to understand how, when and why someone should be critical of what they hear and see in the media.
