Book work English 5 SA20B

Rodengymnasiet, Norrtälje · Senast uppdaterad: 19 januari 2021

In this assignment, you are going to read a book, and talk about it in groups.

Please choose a book from the book list in the English Team

Choose a group of 3-5 people to do the presentation for. The group members should have different books.

Sign up in the groups list in the file archive in Teams. You teacher will then make a presentation time table and put it also in the file archive in Teams.

Prepare to do two oral presentations by making keywords about the information for presentations 1 and 2 below. Look at how many pages your book contains and then divide them by 2. When the time table says presentation 1, you need to have read half of your book. When the timetable says presentation 2, you need to have finished reading the book.

We will spend some lessons reading the book, but you might also need to read on your own as homework.

Presentation 1 (five minutes)

  • Make a short summary of what has happened in the book so far.
    • Also add your first impression of the book. Use the questions below:
    • What do you think about the book, so far?
    • What do, or don't you like about the book?
    • What is the language like: difficult or easy? What makes it difficult or easy?
    • What do you think will happen in the book?

Presentation 2 (five minutes)

  • Make a brief summary of what has happened since your last presentation.
  • Choose one of the characters in the story and share what you know (direct characterization) and what you think you know (indirect characterization) about this character.
  • What do you believe is the book´s theme? Bring up examples or quotes to support your opinion. You can use the following questions:
    • What does the author want to say with the story?
    • What is the message?
    • What is there to learn from the story?

Definitions

Direct characterizationWhat the author tells you about the character.

Indirect characterization: In-between the lines - what do you "know" about the character. You can think about the character's:

-actions

-speech

-appearance

Theme: the meaning, message, idea, or topic in the book.

Summarya short description of what has happened in the story.

QuoteWhen you give an example of something in the book by writing exactly as it says in the book: for example when you describe the language, or something that one of the characters says.
