Hardly a week goes by without news about police brutality against black Americans. George Floyd is a recent example. If we want to understand how these acts of racism are possible, we need to look at the history of the USA, the roots go back to slavery .
Purpose:
To learn about an important part of American history and culture. To understand racism towards black Americans today you need to understand the historical background.
To understand the meaning of racism and why it exists
To discuss racism from an ethical point of view (moraliskt perspektiv)

* Reading articles about slavery and racism and the civil rights movement + watch videos
* Answering questions about the articles, in writing
* Talks and discussions about the articles, the facts as well as ethical issues (frågor)
* Individual work (reading, answering questions)/ Group work (talks and discussions in class)
