This is a reading project in which you will read a book of your own choice for 4 weeks, so you need to divide the book into 4 parts. You will discuss the book through starters and a shorter text. You will also choose which kind of presentation you want to do, but to help you, you will get 40 different tips in this plan.

 

Way of working

You will:

  • divide the book into 4 parts
  • read 1 part/week (1/4 of the book)
  • use w.9 (sports holiday) to read if you need/want to
  • discuss the book during lessons
  • work with words from your book
  • translate on shorter part of the book which captures the atmosphere and/or mood in that specific part
  • one shortwriting as a starter in which you will write about your favourite character + make comparisons

9A Monday 22/2 - 9B Tuesday 23/2

  • Choose book
  • Start reading
  • Taking notes about: the introduction, plot, characters, settings, messages, examples from the English Culture, your favourite scene and own opinions

Thursday 25/2

  • STARTER: An oral discussion about the Introduction (2 and 2):

              1. In what way does the book start (description of characters or environment? With the plot, something that's                            happening? Something else?)

              2. What kind of information do you get about the characters, the plot, something else?)

              3. Discuss the language in the book. (Level of vocabulary? The atmosphere (poetic, scary, realistic...)? Length of                      sentences? Dialogue/Text body? Anything else? Support with examples or quotes from your book.

  • Have read 1/4 of the book

9A Monday 8/3 - 9B Tuesday 9/3

  • STARTER: The plan in Unikum.
  • Prepare for the starter on Thursday. Pick out five words you don't know and write tehm on pieces of paper (cards 5x5cm) + write an explanation of the word in English on the backside of the cards.
  • Read your book + take notes + pick out quotes (that shows: the personality of the characters/the environment/the messages/etc...)

Thursday 11/3

  • STARTER (in groups of three or four): Learn the words you prepared last lesson. Take turns to guess the word or the explanation of the word = you'll get the card.
  • Revise your Travel Blog
  • Read the book + take notes

9A Monday 15/3 - 9B Tuesday 16/3

  • STARTER: Shortwriting in Unikum: Your favourite character: describe, explain, motivate +  compare with yourself + compare with another book or film
  • Read your book + take notes + pick out quotes (that shows: the personality of the characters/the environment/the messages/etc...)

Thursday 18/3

  • STARTER: Find 2-3 good quotes that show the messages of the book + discuss with a classmate
  • Have read 2/4 of the book

  • STARTER: Translate a shorter part of the book, in which you can sense the atmosphere and/or the mood (e.g. Cheerful, Reflective, Gloomy, Humorous, Melancholy, Idyllic, Whimsical, Romantic, Mysterious, Ominous, Calm, Lighthearted, Hopeful, Angry, Fearful, Scary, Tense, Lonely, Maddening, Sad, Fearful, Desiring, Love/Loving, Paranoia, Depressing, Suspense/Suspenseful). You HAVE TO catch the mood in your Swedish translation.
