The Great Debates

After you graduate, you will have a lot of discussions, both online (which is really popular nowadays, for some weird reason), and face to face with another face, or person. As my students, I really want you to win all the arguments and discussion that you may have in the future. Therefore, I want us to prepare and to enact debates in the classroom. I will divide you into pairs. Each pair will receive two topics to discuss, you both will have to be “for” once and “against” once. However, one of the topics which you are given, might not be a serious one. This is because, the main discussions online nowadays are really weird and often over a peculiar and strange topic; which is why it could be argued that they are not important. Having this in mind, I will also include ONE serious topic. I have paired the topics with the pairs (a pun). You will have a number of lessons to prepare arguments both for and against the different topics. It is also important to come up with counter-arguments in order to make sure that you can defend your own opinion. The debate will in total last 15minutes. We will first warm-up with the not so serious topic, which will only last for around 5 minutes. Afterwards, we will go into the real-deal and have the serious topics which will last for a whopping 10 minutes. You will have to prepare both an introduction and a conclusion that you will start contra end with.
