Summary and Response Essay

A summary and response essay summarises and responds to an author’s argument on a particular subject or issue. Firstly, this requires careful, faithful explanation of what the author is actually saying in the “summary” part of your essay, even if you disagree with their premise, chain of evidence, argument, or conclusion. The time for you to refute or agree with the author’s argument and state your own opinion on the subject based on evidence (facts, personal experience, etc.) will occur when you write the “response” part of this essay.

Before you start writing your summary and response essay you will work with two of the articles found in Echo English 7, Is sugar the world’s most popular drug  Pages 6-18, and The trouble with teaching rape law Pages 36-40.

We will start with the article Is sugar the world’s most popular drug  (Pages 6-18) and exercises from the course book conntected to the article. Then we will move on to the second article The trouble with teaching rape law (Pages 36-40) and exercises conntected to the article.
