Life is full of difficult choices and we are often faced with a dilemma that requires us to think about right and wrong action from various perspectives. Ethics is the philosophical field which addresses how we should act in the world.

CONTENT

In this module we will be examining the ethical decision making by examining ethical models and by analyzing hypothetical situations in which ethical decision-making can be employed. We will be examining the following ethical models: Virtue Ethics (ex. Aristotelianism), Rules-based Ethics (ex. Deontology) and Consequence-based ethics (ex. Utilitarianism). After becoming acquainted with these models we will practice applying them in various hypothetical situations.

Goals

At the completion of this module you should have knowledge and understanding of:  

• Ethical concepts, models, the practical application of such in hypothetical situations.

SUCCESS STRATEGIES

• Come on time and be prepared for lessons.
• Request assistance if you require it. Work with a partner or in a study group. Communicate with your teacher!
• Do your assignments properly and on time. This includes readings, video lectures, study questions and exam prep.
