"Water your mind - read!" is a saying that really describes the importance of reading. There are many benefits of reading: it activates your brain, it helps you stay focused, it gives new perspectives, empathy and imagination. Reading also improves your vocabulary and language.

READING COMPREHENSION: A NOVEL

Examination Day - a short story to read + questions to answer.

The story + questions will be shared into your Drive, through Google Classroom. Write your answers in the document, and submit in Classroom

Homework for Monday next week:
Borrow a novel (in Swedish: roman) in English at the library. How long is your novel? You need to be able to finish reading it in 5 weeks. Divide the number of pages with 5, and you know how much you will need to read each week.
 
Use prior knowledge and predict from the cover, title and author what the novel is going to be about. Write your thoughts in your reading log (shared in Drive through Classroom).

Read your novel and do assignment 1 (you find all assignments in your reading log, shared in Drive through Classroom):

  • Clarify: Write a word list with translations or explanations of at least 10 words. Also copy the sentence where you found the word and write down the page. Use dictionaries like tyda.se, bab.la, NE or an English dictionary like the Oxford dictionary.
  • Visualize by finding 10 pictures that show what is going on in the novel - write down quotes and pages.

Homework: make sure that you have read 1/5 of the novel and finished assignment 1 before Monday next week

  • Clarify: Keep writing down new words and translate them if you need to. Remember to write the page where you found the word.

  • Summarize: Make an oral presentation and include a summary of the novel so far and also predict how the novel is going to end. You can also comment on what you think of the story. Film your presentation (2 - 8 min).
  • Clarify: Keep writing down new words and translate them if you need to.
