Strategies for successful writing

  • To create a text of good quality, variation, clarity and coherence are important.

  • For variation:

  • Try to create a good balance between long and short sentences.

  • For clarity:

  • Plan your texts carefully.

  • Assume your reader does not know as much as you about the subject.

  • Proofread and double check many, many times.

  • Read your text aloud.

  • Ask someone else to proofread your text.

  • Do not use words you do not understand yourself.

  • For unity and coherence:

  • Plan the order and structure of your text carefully by using lists or mind maps.

  • Connect your sentences and paragraphs together by using linking words.
